(Red Star Records, 1977)
This is one of my favorite suicide tracks, I love this period of early stuff because of the texture of the distortion, the way its so simple. The organ and minimal srum machine are very hypnotic, it’s like early techno. Alan Vegas vocals are also incredible, it’s like rocknroll from hell on acid!

The Flying Lizards – Purple Haze, extrait de l’album “Top Ten”
(Statik Records, 1984)
The Flying Lizards were an experimental rock band from england who famously had a no.1 hit single with the cover version of “Money”. I have chosen a cover of Jimi Hendrix “Purple Haze” from the album “Top Ten”. It illustrates the bizarre style of the band, i love the way they deconstruct the songs and use such discordant sounds and very sparse rhythms. In particular the vocals of Deborah Evans are amazing because they are so pure and lack emotion, so they feel totally disconnected from the music. The band was a project created by David Cunningham, who was an avant garde composer, all their music is very influential and very modern sounding.

Death Grips – Black Jack, extrait de l’album “The Money Store”
(Third Worlds, 2012)
This band are a project from Zach Hill a drummer and two others, a vocalist and a synth programmer. The music is a fierce mix of hard edge hip hop and hardcore punk. As soon as I heard this band for the first time i was totally in hypnotised by the intensity of the sound, its so raw and violent. It reminds me of when i first discovered punk music in the late 80s. I recently saw them play live and it was great to see such heavy and basic music.

Oxbow – The Snake and…, extrait de l’album “An Evil Heat”
(Neurot Recordings, 2011)
I first discovered oxbow after watching some interviews with the singer, Eugene S.Robinson. He has a very deranged style of performing and singing, it is like he has been posessed by a demon or spirit. this often leads him to taking his clothes off on stage and sometimes particapating in phsyical fights with members of the audience. he as also written a book about different styles of fighting and is a regular in fighting competitions.

Dirty Beaches – Sweet 17, extrait de l’album “Badlands”
(Zoo Music, 2011)
Dirty Beaches is a lo-fi musician who makes music in a 60’s psyche-rock, garage rock style. It has a beautiful texture and dirt in the sound, it’s like looking at old photos.

Elvis Presley – Blue Moon, extrait de l’album “Elvis Presley”
(RCA Victor, 1956)
I dont need to introduce this guy! I think he was the first music i loved as a child, I really love this recording because of the echco and warm distortion of the voice. I also love the way the bands instruments are so minimal and quite in the background, so they become abstract. It’s a very spooky piece of music.

Chromatics – Hannah’s Song, extrait de l’album “Chrome Rats Vs Basement Rutz ”
(Gold Standard Laboratories, 2003)
This band have gone through some different style, I think they are doing more disco these days, but this song is from their first album, itis much more like punk in style. It’s got a great guitar and drums sound, and I love the vocals in it.
