  [GTCM002] Red Counter EP

Red Counter, a brilliant showcase of Olibusta’s versatility, is a track as polyvalent as melodic tunes get. A simplistic bass line, an old school breakbeat loop combined with subtle drum programming, weird pitched vocals, bitter-sweet harmonies, progressive structure and an overall emotional vibe are skilfully layered with a distinctive touch of class. The result is so much more than the sum of its parts and is guaranteed to bring dancers’ arms up in the air and, why not, a smile to their face. True to Get The Curse’s credo, Red Counter defies traditional categories and provides a blue-print for forward thinking electronic dance music of the highest order.

On Jerry’s Coiffure, Olibusta carries on bending genres and combining opposites with skill and elegance. An understated groover with an undeniable trippy touch, it produces a floating feeling on the dancefloor. However, Jerry’s Coiffure won’t put anyone to sleep, not with those syncopated vocal hooks and snappy drum programming it won’t! No ass will be left unshaken, mark my words. Excelling both on jackin’ and trippy fronts, Jerry’s Coiffure is a weapon of choice both for lazy warm-ups sets and googly-eyed after hours sessions.

Remixing Red Counter, Glaswegian Sei A also strays off the beaten tracks. Totally unpredictable, this track evolves organically in a steam-of-consciousness style. As a driving synth wobbles its way through the dancefloor, vocal samples from the original are rearranged and new percussive elements surface. Going much further deep down in the dark recesses of the original than a dub version would ever dream of, this is a fantastic and unusual tool for those who are not afraid to stand out from the rest.

Darabi’s remix of Jerry’s Coiffure, the duo’s first effort on GTCM is a shrunken head of a remix. Stripping the original to the bone and boiling it down to it to its most essential components, Darabi has created a sick remix driven by haunting synths and tweaky effects. A case in point for the less is more paradigm, this is reduced dance music at its most twisted, and definitely the sound of great things to come from this budding production duo.
