And it’s in Eng-err-lish.

JIMI HENDRIX Pali Gap
Extrait de Rainbow Bridge - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
(LP - 1971 - Reprise)
A not so heard of track from the master of the guitar. It’s on the Rainbow Bridge album, an instrumental which is basically one long solo, which by anyone else would be unbearable… The blurb on the back of the album (and also a video) is him being interviewed while clearly on acid. Mental. Just so full of feeling, the man was a total genius. Can’t imagne what he would have been doing should he have lived. RIP Jimi.

NEIL YOUNG Harvest
Extrait de Harvest
(LP - 1972 - Reprise)
On the album with the same title. It’s just a blissed out tune that just calms me and makes me feel everything is gonna be ok. Let the sun shine…

RY COODER Theme From Southern Comfort
Extrait de Music By Ry Cooder
(COMPILATION - 1995 - Warner Bros.)
Proper cajun blues from the finest blues player ever in my opinion. Taken from the film Southern Comfort which is a cool film, it evokes the mood perfectly. Mr Cooder was a session player in the 60’s, and played on Stones stuff, and i read he taught Keith Richards a thing or two. Blues was and still is a big love of mine, I started playing guitar learning the blues. Simple and from the heart music…but the devils heart!

MAX ROMEO & THE UPSETTERS Chase The Devil
Extrait de War Ina Babylon
(LP - 1976 - Island)
Just so infectious. The bassline is superb… I think Lee Perry (who produced it) tried to make people think he was a lot madder than he really is. You can almost smell the smoke in the studio listening to this. Sampled by The Prodigy in “Out Of Space”

THE SPECIALS Enjoy Yourself
Extrait de More Specials
(LP - 1980 - Two-Tone)
An end of the night classic. “Enjoy yourself, its later that you think” : possibly the best message in music ever ! That’s what life should be about ! The vibe of this record is perfect for the lyrics. Proper good time booze music!

BRIAN ENO Here Come The Warm Jets
Extrait de Here Come The Warm Jets
(LP - 1973 - Island)
First heard this through Mr Weatherall, and was blown away… Its layered with a beautiful ebow guitar which Eno then employed on Bowie’s “Heroes”. It’s really all over the place timing-wise but it just adds to the craziness. If you haven’t heard this then you must track it down !

STAKKER Stakker Humanoid
Extrait de Stakker Humanoid
(12″ - 1989 - Beat Box)
Always used to hear this tune at early 90’s raves, one of those tunes that still rocks! Pre-Future Sound Of London and Amorphous Androgynous. Proper filthy acid. Nuff’ said!

LALI PUNA 6-0-3
Extrait de Tridecoder
(LP - 1999 - Morr)
A beautiful track. Valerie from Lali sang on my track “Fed-Ex To Munchen” after i heard this and played with them on a few dates. Very nice whispery voice over some typically german beats. I always play this one comin down on a sunday morning!

DAVID BOWIE Ashes To Ashes
Extrait de Scary Monsters
(LP - 1980 - RCA)
I can remember when this came out, the video always freaked me out when i was a kid, Bowie dressed as a weird clown, and in that kind of colour negative film… The middle eight always gets me! What a genius…

KRUST Warhead
Extrait de Warhead
(12″ - 1997 - V)
The finest moment in Drum & Bass for me. When this was out, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing it. Really simple bassline and loads of drum layers. Bouncy bouncy! One of my favourite Drum & Bass producers and DJ’s..
How did I get from Neil Young to Krust ? Heh…

May 19th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
non?
May 19th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
