Don’t get me wrong, East London is no Detroit, Chicago or Berlin in terms of musical identity. However, as we’ve seen with Tsiridis, this doesn’t mean the area is devoid of talent. Get ready for another dose of high-powered cockney techno, son, Mark Broom is in the house.
Belonging to that generation of British kids positively impressed by the late eighties ecstatic acid house and decadent sunny Spanish isle combo, Broom has been in the game for quite a while (1992), and has made substantial contributions to UK techno, i.e. DJing with the famous Black Dog Production team and founding the Pure Plastic imprint amongst other things.
Experience is certainly one of the reasons why his (recent) productions are so efficient and his remixes in demand from people like Mason, Shinedoe or Gel Abril. Bouncy, almost elastic grooves with phat detailled basslines held together by jackin’ techno-ish beats, what a combination.
Mark Broom – Trumpet [Rotary Cocktail Recordings]
A fine example of the man’s trademark gangsta & gentleman sound.
Mihalis Safras – Pigs Around (Mark Broom remix) [Globox]
Safras and Broom often remix each other, and this is a good blend of deep lush pads and a sleek rythmic section. Keeps your body moving but also takes you a little bit higher, how’s that?
