Alex Tsiridis – Trapez / Gumption / District of Corruption

Nuff said about superstar DJ’s, confirmed producers, legends, veterans and other mile-stones. It’s important for the young bloods to come to the fore once in a while and get some of that new shit pumping through your veins, don’t you think?

My mate Alex is one of them, no doubt. Far from being a rookie, this young producer is clearly one of London’s hopefuls for this foul year of Our Lord; Two-Thousand-and-Eight. Check him out.

As you might have guessed, Alex is of Greek extraction. Now I know you usually don’t give a damn where producers are from, but in Alex’s case, it’s an important factor. His debut and sophomore releases on Gumption and District of Corruption are caught somewhere London and Thessaloniki, and showcased a highly distinctive sound where reduced dancefloor grooves harmoniously blend with subtle elements of Greek folk music, in particular the sound of the Bouzouki lute.

This could not go on unnoticed, and the people at Trapez certainly took good note of this; they’ve just released the third Tsiridis EP.

The Greek influences might be less obvious, but the Trapez one definitely is. By that I mean the precision, attention to detail, and focus on visceral grooves that characterize the German label. Very Tsiridis and very Trapez at the same time, what a match.

Alex Tsiridis – Rubber Suit

A trip to the dark side, with a heavy and powerful bassline that somehow manages to take you higher and higher. Len Faki ain’t got nothing on this.

Alex Tsiridis – Suasion

Less dark but still unsettling, this one is groovy and filled with little details. The promo sheet says there’s a few tasty ‘moments of loosing control’ and for once I’ve got to agree with that. This is the kind of stuff I associate with Clement Meyer’s finest sets.
