When i was 3 years old, in 1966, my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said i wanted a “yeah yeah”, and they were going “what the fuck’s a yeah yeah ?” They had no idea (laughs) The next day, The Beatles’ “She Loves You” came on on the radio and I started doing air-guitar and said “that’s it, that’s a yeah yeah !” (laughs) And they bought me the record.

That’s one of the first two records I bought. T-Rex was my introduction to music. They just stood above all the other bands of the 70’s rock revival. It’s basically rockabilly with glam guitars. And it’s fucking brilliant.

DONNA SUMMER I Feel Love

That’s one of the records that got me into electronic music -the other one being “Autobahn” by Kraftwerk- which is not much of a surprise. I was 11 or 12 years old at the time and it didn’t sound like anything else playing on the radio. It just sounded weird, even to an 11 year old kid.

RON GOODWIN Theme From 633 Squadron

That’s the first record I played as a DJ, at my first proper gig in 1985. It’s the main theme from a movie called 633 Squadron. It’s a british movie about fighting pilots, and I played this rousing heroic theme as an introduction to my set. I asked the club to put the smoking machines at maximum level to give the feel of an airplane attack on the dancefloor (laughs) The owner of the club came up to me, tapped on my shoulder and said “you must be joking, mate” (laughs)

Throbbing Gristle had such an effect on me. That’s just something else. Stuff you sometimes barely understood. How the fuck did they come up with that ? It still amazes me to this day.

PRIMAL SCREAM Loaded

Working on Screamadelica was a turning point in my career. We had no idea of what we were doing and it went above every expectation. I love those guys and they’re just one of the best bands on the fucking planet.
